Haha gut, zwei Leser dann mal weiter.
I guess my choice of language has not been as user friendly as I thought.
Recently my wife and I returned from our annual vacation ride. Yes, now that we're living in the South Island, that's where we went :-).
I've got lots of pictures, so I'll let them do the talking. Also, I'll have to do this in installments, as I should be busy working.
We headed south along the east coast, mainly because the weather was crap on the we(s)t coast.
After spending the night in Ashburton, we ended up in Oamaru. Oamaru is interesting because it still has lots of classical stone buildings. During the last gold rush it did remarkably well and then sort of withered away. With no money to spend, the old buildings were left pretty much untouched. Recently it's become well known for its Steam Punk festival.
It's right by the sea and also well known for the little yellow eyed penguins that come ashore every night. No pictures of the penguins, but here is the sea ;-)
The weather decided to close in a bit, so we left for our next night's stay, the Dansey's Pass Hotel. I had been looking forward to that. Of course to get there, you have to take the Dansey's Pass road, that's almost compulsory.
Still pretty cool, even on a day like this.
This is the original part of the hotel, it's from around 1905, I think.
Pretty generous speed limit, so I am not sure why the sign has bullet holes.
Did I mention that it got bloody cold? Luckily, they always have a fire going and it was no hardship spending the rest of the day and evening in there.
The next day the weather had sorted itself out and we headed for Naseby.
I'll buy you a beer if you can identify the car on the left.
I was tempted to buy this.
Next we stopped over at St Bathan's another obligatory stop.
This lake is the result of sluicing for Gold. They used powerful water canons to flush waway the soil.
Fish and chips
My old R1150GS turning over 200000km near Ophir, and they're all mine.
Next was a quick stop at the Manorburn reservoir
The next stop was Clyde
to be continued... | |

So many familiar places and pictures. Mine look almost the same. Wish I had more time back then. 3 months just wasn't enough... | _________________ Gruß Aaron |
