RANGE ROVER SPORT CLAIMS SCOTTISH SUV OF THE YEAR ACCOLADE
Gaydon, Warwickshire, 25 October 2005 - The Rover Sport has been crowned the Scottish SUV of the Year for 2005. The title, given by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) was awarded to the Rover Sport over some of the toughest competitors in the sector, such as the Volkswagen Touareg and Mercedes ML.
Ally Ballingall, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers said of the award: “Our pick of the new SUVs to be launched in the past 12 months has proven all-terrain pedigree. However, the Rover Sport doubles as a sophisticated road car thanks to excellent driving dynamics that are complemented by a of deliciously smooth Jaguar-derived power units. We loved this wonderfully talented and exceptionally luxurious British-built vehicle.”
Collecting the award, the Rover Sport's designer, Richard Woolley, added: "Scotland is a very important market to Land Rover, with a very loyal customer base, especially for our more traditional models. It is therefore very encouraging that our newest offering has been so well received by the ASMW – Scottish sales of the Rover Sport are already beginning to reflect its award winning status."
This marks the Rover Sport's seventh award since it went on-sale in May this year, and follows a record-breaking month of sales in the UK during September. Over 1500 Rover Sports were sold and the Supercharged derivative's waiting list has grown to March 2006. | |
