The Underdrive
We have for some time had demand for different gearing options of the low on the LT 230 transfer case.
Historically this demand was for the "Rock Crawlers" in the USA and the "Glacier Crawling" in Iceland but due to the more recent trend in the UK and Europe of "Challenge" type events this demand has grown further.
The following specs can get confusing so a brief introduction may be useful,
The LT230 has a high and a low , the high ratio can be 1.003, 1.192, 1.206, 1.211, 1.222, 1.410 and 1.667 (the 1.192, 1.206, 1.211 and 1.222 can all be treated as the same), the low on all LT 230 boxes is 3.321.
These numbers refer to the number of times the input gear must be turned to make the output flanges turn once.
Also note, all vehicles fitted with the LT 230 have 3.54 ratio diffs, this means the propshaft turns 3.54 times to make the turn once.
